Austin Animal Center

The goal of the Austin Animal Center is to place all adoptable animals in forever homes through adoptions, foster care or rescue partner groups.

Austin Animal Center, the largest municipal animal shelter in Central Texas, provides shelter to 23,000 animals annually and services to Austin/Travis County. This facility accepts stray and owned animals regardless of age, health, species or breed. AAC is the largest no-kill shelter in the country.

Animal Receiving

Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Town Lake Location

1156 W. Cesar Chavez Blvd, Austin, TX 78704
Due to overflow conditions at the new shelter, some of the shelter’s dogs are currently housed at the old Town Lake Center facility. This facility is shared with Austin Pets Alive and other local rescue groups.
